The city of Durlach
Konrad, Duke of Schwaben and brother of the Kaiser Heinrich VI was wounded by the husband of a woman whom he tried to rape on his warfar against the Zähringer. Since he died from his injury the historians reported this event to have taken place in the city of Durlaich in 1196. This is the oldest document where the name Durlach can be found and proofes it to be over 800 years old.
Durlach was an existing settlement with permanent structures over 500 years before Margrave Karl Wilhelm decided to have his palace build in 1715. Some of the old houses are still around there and people actually live in them.
